IAQ Consultants is an independent environmental consultancy, specialising in indoor air quality. We have a proven track record of providing unique solutions to support clients with complex projects and lead the way professionally, maximising technical knowledge with efficiencies to ensure clients timescales are achieved.
Our growing team of experts has over 70 years of experience and collaboratively we draw knowledge and expertise from a range of backgrounds to enable us to deliver services of any scale and for a wide range of industries.
IAQ Consultants has substantial experience providing services to the private sector for a large variety of industries, such as residential, commercial, industrial, power-generating, waste, agricultural and transport developments. IAQ Consultants also has extensive experience in providing services to the public sector, including support for local authorities, local to national scale inventories and development of guidance and policy.
Our head office is based in the iconic city of Bristol, from here we provide client support throughout the UK and internationally.
Challenging the norm
IAQ Consultants are always looking to work outside the box, finding new approaches to solve difficult situations and establish measures to help minimise indoor pollution.
We have helped numerous clients achieve Outstanding ratings for BREEAM and similar for WELL, despite challenging technical circumstances, for a wide range of projects.
With inhouse software developers, our team supports clients in developing bespoke tools for assessing indoor air quality as well as producing national tools for the public sector.

History
IAQ Consultants, part of KALACO Group Ltd, was established in April 2019 when co-founders Dr Austin Cogan and Kieran Laxen identified the demand for client-focused professional services, which they believed could be delivered more efficiently with greater detail. What started as a two-person start-up is now a thriving business, putting client needs at the forefront and achieving well beyond the goals they first set out.
Our Team
IAQ Consultants provide expert advice and support to developers, industry, local authorities and policy makers. The Company’s Directors have a national reputation in indoor air quality assessment and research, having authored indoor air quality guidance, published numerous scientific publications and presented at conferences. As well as the two company directors, IAQ Consultants has access to a team with collectively over 70 years of experience.

Dr Claire Holman, BSc (Hons) PhD CSci CEnv FIEnvSc FIAQM
Director
Dr Holman is a Director of IAQ Consultants. She is a Chartered Scientist and a Chartered Environmentalist, has nearly 40 years of experience and has advised national governments in Europe, Asia and Africa, as well as the European Commission on a range of issues. Claire led the development of IAQM professional guidance for indoor air quality, is currently the President of the institute, has been a member of a Government air quality review groups. She is an experienced expert witness for planning and CPO inquiries and litigation, and is currently a member of the Barts Charity Children’s Environmental Health Clinic Advisory Board. Her IAQ expertise includes research studies and litigation.
Kieran Laxen MEng (Hons) MIEnvSc MIAQM
Director
Mr Laxen is a Director of IAQ Consultants and has over 15 years’ experience in environmental sciences. Kieran is the Vice Chair of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) committee and was part of the working group for the IAQM indoor air quality guidance. He has extensive experience of air quality monitoring, including a wide range of applications and instrument types. This has included reference standard continuous monitors, low cost sensors and absorbent tubes. His key IAQ expertise includes monitoring, local authority toolkits and general investigative issues.
IAQ Consultants are part of KALACO Group Ltd, and additional team members experienced in air quality assessments are on hand to meet work demands.
