Local Authority Work
People spend most of their time indoors (80-90%) where they are exposed to a range of air pollutants. Buildings are becoming more airtight to reduce CO2 emissions, but this leads to the build-up of air pollution emitted for indoor sources. There are multiple sources of toxic emissions in buildings, most of which are poorly regulated. These include the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from building materials, furnishings, paints, solvents, cleaning materials and personal care products and particulate matter from cooking and burning candles.
Research shows that the benefits of improving the health and wellbeing of building occupants can be significant, for example by increasing productivity.
IAQ Consultants can provide a range of services for local authorities including supporting public health teams and advising building management teams on improving the indoor air quality for both employees and the public using their buildings.
